The Eastlands Primary School RotaKids will be collecting children’s backpacks and stationery items at the Rotary Spring Fair on Bank Holiday 1st May.
These will be sent out to various parts of the world through an international charity - Mary’s Meals. This charity, based in the UK, does a tremendous job feeding over ONE MILLION orphans and disadvantaged children every day all over the world as long as the children bring backpacks to their schools.
Pauline Kimber said “the backpacks don’t have to be new, perhaps you’re replacing one with a more up to date version; we can use the old packs please. The stationery items can be anything that a child needs to attend school - pencils, pencil sharpeners, notebooks, crayons etc.”
“Eastland RotaKids are a group of children based at Eastlands Primary School who as part of Rotary in Rugby will be at the Rugby Rotary Spring Fair on the Whitehall Recreation Ground on Bank Holiday 1st May. It would really make their day if children from the town could bring any items they can to the Rotary Hospitality Tent where they will be gratefully received.”
Rotakids is one of a string of initiatives aimed at unlocking the potential in young people by providing a fun way for young people aged between 7 and 12 to try something new, make friends and make a difference in the community. More information on this can be obtained from the Rotary Hospitality Tent at the Rotary Spring Fair.
Mary’s Meals is ‘a no-frills charity with a simple idea that works: by providing one good meal in a place of learning, children are drawn into the classroom where they can receive an education that could one day free them from poverty - more information about Mary’s Meals can be found on https://www.marysmeals.org.uk/
